UNDERSTANDING YOUR CONDITION

What is Neck Pain?

Neck pain affects up to 50% of the UK population at some point in their lives, making it one of the most common reasons people seek physiotherapy. The cervical spine is a complex structure supporting the weight of the head while allowing a wide range of movement — making it vulnerable to strain and injury.

Whether your neck pain is from a desk job, whiplash, degenerative changes or sleeping awkwardly, physiotherapy is proven to reduce pain, restore movement and prevent recurrence more effectively than rest or medication alone.

At Physio Experts, our physiotherapists use manual therapy, targeted exercises and education to address your neck pain at its source — providing lasting relief, not just short-term symptom management.

Whiplash & Insurance Claims: We provide detailed physiotherapy assessment reports for whiplash injuries and road traffic accident claims. Contact us to discuss your requirements.

Common Symptoms

WHY IT HAPPENS

Common Causes of Neck Pain

Our physiotherapists assess all potential causes during your initial consultation to identify the root of your condition.

Poor Posture & Screen Use

Prolonged desk work, smartphone use and poor sitting posture place chronic strain on the cervical spine muscles and joints.

Whiplash Injury

Sudden acceleration-deceleration (car accidents) causes soft tissue injury to the neck — requiring prompt physiotherapy.

Cervical Spondylosis

Age-related wear and degeneration of the cervical discs and joints. Very common in adults over 40.

Cervical Disc Prolapse

A herniated cervical disc pressing on a nerve root causes arm pain, tingling and weakness — known as cervical radiculopathy.

Sleep Position

Sleeping with the neck in a sustained awkward position causes muscle spasm and acute neck pain.

Sporting Injury

Contact sports, gymnastics and overhead activities can cause cervical strain, facet joint injury or disc problems.

EVIDENCE-BASED TREATMENT

How Physiotherapy Helps

Our HCPC-registered physiotherapists use a combination of hands-on treatment, targeted exercises and education to address the root cause — not just the symptoms.

Cervical Mobilisation & Manipulation

Gentle, precise manual therapy techniques to restore normal neck joint movement, reduce stiffness and relieve pain quickly.

Postural Re-education

Correction of head, neck and shoulder posture combined with ergonomic advice for work and home — addressing the root cause.

Neck Stabilisation Exercises

Progressive deep neck flexor strengthening to support the cervical spine and significantly reduce recurrence risk.

Acupuncture for Neck Pain

Dry needling of tight cervical muscles provides rapid pain relief and reduces muscle spasm — often effective within 2–3 sessions.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Back Pain Physiotherapy — FAQs

How quickly will physiotherapy help my neck pain?
Most patients with acute neck pain notice significant improvement within 3–5 sessions. Chronic neck pain or cervical radiculopathy may require 8–12 sessions. You’ll receive a clear treatment timeline at your first appointment.
Can physiotherapy help with neck-related headaches?
Yes — cervicogenic headaches (headaches originating from the neck) respond very well to cervical physiotherapy, including manual therapy and postural correction. This is often more effective than medication for this type of headache.
Do you treat whiplash injuries?
Yes — we provide specialist whiplash assessment and treatment, along with detailed reports for insurance claims and solicitors if required. Early physiotherapy is strongly recommended after whiplash.

Is it safe to have my neck manipulated?
Your safety is our priority. Our physiotherapists perform a thorough assessment before any manual therapy. We use the safest, most appropriate techniques for your individual presentation. If manipulation is not indicated, we use gentle mobilisation instead.

Can I see a physiotherapist without being referred by my GP?
Absolutely — you can self-refer directly to Physio Experts. This is the quickest way to start treatment and avoid long NHS waiting lists. Simply call or WhatsApp us to book.
